obviously this is an extremely bizarre tweet that got ratioed to hell and back, but it’s also hilarious that of all the authors in the entire English literary canon, she somehow landed on Shakespeare as the epitome of cisnormative writing.
like ma’am shakespeare’s characters go on stage and announce their gender to the audience within the first few lines in nearly every play. Including…you know….the very play you reference???

"lady macbeth was manipulating macbeth because of her own ambition to be queen" "lady macbeth never really wanted to be queen she was only doing it because she loved her husband" no you don't understand she was doing it for them. at the beginning of the play the macbeths are a team, partners in greatness, one cannot exist without the other. she doesn't want power only for herself or only for him, she wants them to rule together, equally. that's why it's so devastating when she doesn't get that, when becoming king and queen only drives them apart, because she wanted them to be partners in greatness and she got the opposite.

do you think Shakespeare lived with his characters dancing around his head rent free
do you think Shakespeare heard a new tune while listening to his church’s choir and went ‘oh my god that would be perfect for hamlet’ and reimagine hamlets death scene to it or something
or saw a love poem and went ‘Romeo and Juliet core’ before getting inspired to add another addition to his play that has practically nothing to do with the poem but couldn’t have happened without it
or saw idk a sword or something I’m running out of options here and was like ‘THATS MACBETHS NOW. HE OWNS THAT. IN MY HEART.’

oh my god. if the “your hearing is the last sense to go out before death” thing is true then that means that there’s a chance the last thing hamlet heard was “goodnight, sweet prince,” from horatio and then his hearing went out probably

People shit on Shakespeare for being boring but my guy wrote real person fanfiction and tortured his ocs and told cringe jokes and had hidden gay subplots and played with gender too- he just did it in

i hate when people criticise hamlet because the character hamlet is a bad person. like first of all he is not real. and what he is is a representation of grief. the whole point is that grief and depression make you angry and annoying and obsessive and self absorbed. they make you feel like you’re the only person in the world who feels the way you do. they make you take it out on others. hamlet is a manifestation of grief taken to the extreme. and not to assume things about the personal life of a guy who died 400 years ago but. shakespeare wrote hamlet after his son died. hamlet’s flaws were likely taken from his own grief. hamlet isn’t supposed to be a good person he’s supposed to show how unaddressed grief makes you fall apart and hurt people and it’s not always pretty

thinking about andré tchaikowsky, my sweet little shakespeare-obsessed gay, who just wanted be a part the shakespearean tradition even from beyond the grave, who donated his own skull in to theatre to cement his connection to art, his death only marking his transition from artist to art
and thinking about his skull being finally used after over two decades in THAT 2008 rsc production of hamlet
and thinking about THAT MOMENT from the film version in which hamlet says the line here hung those lips that I have kiss'd I know not how oft and horatio, like the sweet little gay that he is, looks at hamlet the very moment he utters the word kiss'd
andré, this is all you ever wanted and MORE
